The 2012 Summer School was held at the Performing Arts Centre of Sevenoaks School in Kent from the 19th to 25th August where 40 singers aged 10 to 18 spent an intensive week rehearsing for a choral concert and a fully staged production of the Merry Widow by Franz Lehar. As well as FCMG’s musical director Grace Rossiter the music staff included the tenor Steven Jeffes and two former members of FCMG, Olivia Clarke and Sammy Matthewson. The fully staged production of Merry Widow was directed and choreographed by Jenny Perry and designed by Beata Csikmak and Libby Altaras, with lighting design by Luke Woods. Throughout the week singers took part in choral, drama and design workshops, which this year included the making of 800 origami butterflies! Other activities included swimming, a film night, a party held on GCSE results day and a cabaret night where students and staff get the chance to display their hidden talents on stage.
