Patrick Hawes: The Innocents (with VOCES8)
VOCES8, noted for their versatility and musicianship, perform across the globe. Central to the ensemble’s ethos is a celebration of diverse musical expression and a commitment to musical education.
“The singing of VOCES8 is impeccable in its quality of tone and balance. They bring a new dimension to the word “ensemble” with meticulous timing and tuning”. Gramophone
The concert marks the world premiere of Proms commissioned The Innocents (music by Patrick Hawes, libretto Andrew Hawes). It commemorates the sinking of the evacuee ship SS City of Benares in 1940 and those lost at sea, including 77 children. Michael Rennie (the son of the then vicar at St Jude’s) died trying to save the children.
Finchley Children’s Music Group and Nicholas Chalmers will join VOCES8 for this performance.
