Finchley Children’s Music Group is a charity whose purpose is the promotion of singing and choral training for children aged 4 – 18 in North London. FCMG seeks to give all children a safe, happy experience that challenges and develops their skills as part of the FCMG choirs, performing with excellence and learning with excitement.
FCMG is registered with the Charity Commission and is governed by a Board of Trustees, most of whom have (or have had) children in one of the FCMG choirs. The trustees are elected by the members of the charity at the Annual General Meeting for a three-year term, which is renewable for one further three-year term or longer if they currently have a child in one of the choirs.
FCMG also has a very active committee made up largely of choir parents, some of whom are also trustees, in addition to a part-time administrator and the musical director. The committee members take charge of the day-to-day running of the choirs and the events in which they are involved.
If you are currently an FCMG parent and would like to join the committee please contact the FCMG Administrator via the contact page.

My two daughters are both now in Senior choir, having started in Beginners 8 years ago, and my little boy has just started in Beginners, so I foresee being involved in FCMG for a good few years to come. I used to participate in choirs myself including Brighton Festival Chorus and the chorus of Dorset Opera for many years. In my working life, I am a research scientist specialising in the cell biology of host-pathogen interactions for several infectious diseases and I lecture on cell biology to MSc students.
Secretary & Trustee
I joined the committee of FCMG in 2012, but have been involved as a parent since about 2006. My son Archie is a (rather flamboyant) Chamber Boy. I have recently joined a regular choir (London Concert Choir) and am also a keen violinist, particularly with the Islington based Haydn Chamber Orchestra and with the St Endellion Festival in Cornwall. In my day job I am a Chartered Secretary and the General Manager of national music charity Orchestras Live, which helps get professional orchestral work out into parts of England which otherwise would have no access to it. I have led FCMG through the governance changes required for it to become a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, which took place on 1 September 2015.

Trustee & Committee Member
I live in North London with my husband and 3 children and work as an Optometrist in Barnet. I am an executive member of the Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Local Optical Committee and have been involved in various school committees for at both primary and secondary level. Although I have no special talents in this area, I love music and the FCMG family that my daughter has found through her passion for singing with other like minded children. I am currently the trustee responsible for Child Safeguarding, including managing the DBS checks which are now required for all volunteers working with children. I am happy to continue support FCMG wherever required so that all our children can continue to enjoy everything the choir has to offer.
Administrator, Trustee & Committee Member
I have lived in North London for most of my life, am married and have 4 children. I grew up singing and loving music which I learnt to appreciate through my parents who both worked in the opera and theatre. I now sing in my local church choir and from time to time with an amateur music group. My youngest daughter Valentina (Valli) has been a member of FCMG for 7 years now. She started when she was 4 with Janie and Raymond Mack in the Beginners choir, who instilled in her a great love for music and singing. Valli is now in the Senior choir and absolutely loves it. I think we will be long standing members of FCMG! I am responsible for organising chaperones for the Beginners and Intermediate choirs which I am very happy to do as it brings together skills that I use in my working life and enjoy.
Trustee & Committee Member
I have 3 daughters in the choirs at FCMG across Chamber, Senior and Intermediate so have been involved as a parent for a number of years. The quality of the group both musically and socially is unparalleled and so I am delighted to be able to support further by joining the committee and taking over the mantle of Summer School organiser.
As a music graduate I have worked in education (mainly in secondary schools) for over 25 years and I am currently running a County Music Service and other education services for a Learning Trust.

It has been a real pleasure to witness my daughter’s enthusiasm for singing and all things
musical since she started in the Beginners choir under Janie two years ago. The spirit and ethos of FCMG provides children with a fantastic framework in which to explore and develop their musicianship as they grow and I am very pleased to have been asked to give my support in an official capacity to this super organisation. I grew up in a musically appreciative family and have sung in various choirs and choral societies throughout my life, currently being a member of Finchley Choral Society. In my professional life I work in Clinical Governance and
Compliance, specialising in the design and operational implementation of national Nurse programmes in the NHS.
I have always enjoyed singing but my professional life has been in maths and then accountancy. I am a school governor and Treasurer of King Alfred School. My son Sammy joined FCMG in 1998, he has now graduated from university and sings with the Hallé Choir in Manchester. My daughter Izzy started in the Infants a year later; she is now studying law, having graduated from Bristol with a degree in music. Over the years I have been involved with FCMG as Intermediates Administrator and as chaperone for tours, summer schools and concerts, I was Treasurer from 2005 to 2016. I enjoy children and enjoy seeing them grow and develop. I feel that singing with FCMG is a life changing experience and I would like it to be available to many children. It was expected that I would leave the Committee once my children have left the Group but I am happy to continue during this critical period of restructuring FCMG’s governance.

Membership Secretary, Trustee & Committee Member
I have 4 children in Finchley Children’s Music Group. Leo in Beginners, Zach in Intermediates, Caitlin in Seniors and Drew in Chamber. Drew and Caitlin joined just over 7 years ago and my youngest two joined when they were 4 and are working their way up. I am the Membership Secretary which involves greeting new parents, collecting fees and updating contact details for all of our singers. I am also a keen singer and am a member of Finchley Choral Society.
I have a son and a daughter in Chamber choir. I am a former Chair of FCMG and former producer of Summer School. Amongst other things, I am a professional photographer and take photos of the choirs at concerts and during summer school whenever possible. I am also a music producer and am producing the recordings FCMG recorded in the February half-term break. Even though I no longer play an active role in the day-to-day side of running FCMG, I have remained a trustee during this period of governance change.
