FCMG London Children’s Choir - Intermediate Workshop 2007
Wind in the Willows
27 members of the Intermediate choir transformed themselves in to a variety of woodland creatures as part of this year’s summer half term workshop.
The children had just 5 days to take their performance of ‘The Wind in The Willows’ from script to stage and they did themselves proud.
The week got off to a good start at the URC Hall in Muswell Hill. While Tansy and her able choreographer Charlotte, put the children through their paces, the parents formed costume making work parties. Now, there is barely an Intermediate parent who doesn’t know how to rustle up a full weasel costume out of 2 pieces of foam and a pair of sunglasses.
On Sunday we transferred to Brookland School where the hard work really began. The sound of children singing harmonised beautifully with the banging of nails and the swish of paint brushes, as the elaborate set began to take shape.
By Wednesday the cast were word perfect, tuned up and ready for some stage action. They played to 2 packed houses and brought the house down on both occasions. William Perry’s catchy music had many of us humming the show’s tunes for days afterwards and Roger McGough’s witty lyrics had us rolling in the aisles.
There were too many outstanding performances to mention just one, but I will never forget the sight of our accompanist Jenny Gould in a long, curly grey wig, playing the part of Beetoaden!
Simon Weir’s fantastic photos will be a lasting reminder of our wonderful week at Toad Hall.
