FCMG London Children’s Choir -
The Choirs

The choirs provide singing opportunities for youth and teenagers as well as school children

There are four choirs for children aged 4 - 18 years:

The Senior and Chamber Choirs are the principal performing choirs, but there are also regular performance opportunities for the younger children. More pictures of the choirs are available on our Pictures page.

Beginners (from 4 years)

Children are introduced to singing through fun activities designed to stimulate their listening, pitch and rhythm awareness.  They are also taught how to read music and the basics of music theory in preparation for their time in the older choirs.

Intermediate (from 7 years)

The Intermediate choir takes children from aged 7 and aims to develop their vocal and musical skills through an interesting and varied repertoire. Fun warm-up activities focus the children and teach them valuable skills for singing in a choir. The choir sings in up to three parts with some more challenging repertoire for the older members. Sessions also include singing games to build confidence, provide opportunities for solo singing and to keep rehearsals fun!

The Intermediates sing in at least 3 public concerts a year and have also made recordings for SingUp. Children are also given the chance to take part in a workshop in the summer half-term, culminating in a full-staged musical.

A small group of the older and most committed children in Intermediates are selected to take part in an After Class. This helps to prepare them for the transition into Senior Choir, improving their theory and sight-reading skills.

Senior (up to 18 years)

The Senior Choir is FCMG’s principal performing choir and all its singers have the musical and vocal skills required for professional choral engagements.  A diverse and challenging repertoire reflects the busy concert schedule that this choir attracts.  Entry to the Senior Choir is by audition.

Chamber Choir (15-18 years)
soprano, alto, tenor and bass

Choral chamber works are performed by the older girls together with young tenors and basses.  Small ensemble works for the upper voices only explore repertoire from the 16th century to the present day.
