FCMG London Children’s Choir - Summer School 2006
Summer School 2006 was another great success. We returned to Frensham Heights School where the facilities, the food, and the surroundings were everything we remembered from last year.
The 54 members of the senior and chamber choirs who came this year had a wonderful time, and the week culminated in a performance of Die Fledermaus as well as a concert of music that the choirs had learned during the week.
Choir members seemed to really enjoy the daily programme of music, drama and dancing lessons. It amazes me how hard these young people work during a week of their holiday, preparing music, costumes, dances, and performances; and participating in all the activities that are available for them to enjoy - this is the only place I have ever heard someone saying how much they enjoyed their sight-singing lessons!
The evenings were fully occupied with a wide variety of entertainment, including:
- Rounders and football matches - with more members on each team than one might expect, and a referee who scored rather more goals than is traditional in these events
A formal ball at which everyone dressed up and practised the steps they had learned during their dancing lessons. The “Strictly Come Dancing” competition was highly entertaining and prizes were awarded based on entertainment value and dancing skill
- An evening of party games for those who just wanted a bit of fun
- And - of course - Cabaret, the regular event where everyone lets their hair down and shows off their talents
For general relaxation we had a tuck shop area with pool and table tennis tables, as well as table football and a television with DVDs and Videos.

On the last day we entertained over 100 friends and parents to lunch; followed by a concert and our performance of Die Fledermaus in the school’s Performing Arts Centre. This theatre provided the perfect venue for the choir to really show off their talents and the production was a resounding success, with everyone getting to make use of the skills they had worked on during the week.
